Whitemarsh Hall-Then and now
By jsfmt99 :: Monday November 5th, 2007
Whitemarsh Hall was one of the most magnificent private homes ever built in the USA. It was a wedding present from Edward Townsend Stotesbury for his second wife, Eva. Several of my relatives worked there during the depression and they were treated very well by the Stotesbury’s. I will always have wonderful memories exploring the mansion as a teenager. It was an awesome place.

My grandparents worked here. They fell in love and had my uncle while attendig to the family as nurse and automotive engineer. The Stotesbury family were very good to my grandparents.

Isn't it a sad comment on humanity and our society not to have preserved and saved Whitemarsh Hall from the wrecking ball for tawdry townhomes. A wonderful piece of art and architecture has been lost forever other than through the posterity of these fabulous photographs. So much could have been gained through its use, study, a cultural center, etc. It is also shows extremely poor community leadership. Thank you for the lovely tribute to Whitemarsh Hall. After seeing the tradgedy of this wonderful landmark, I am thankful that I live in Texas where the grandeur of another era is not forgotten and is relished and preserved for future generations.
